Description

OSEPP FTD-01 FTDI USB to Serial Breakout Board The OSEPP FTD-01 FTDI USB to Serial Breakout Board is an essential tool for electronics enthusiasts and developers, providing a reliable bridge between USB interfaces and TTL serial communication protocols. Built around the renowned FT232RL integrated circuit from FTDI, this breakout board facilitates seamless data transfer for programming and debugging microcontrollers, particularly those without built-in USB capabilities. Its primary function is to convert USB signals to TTL-level serial signals, enabling direct connection to devices like the OSEPP Pro, Pro Mini, or other Arduino-compatible boards. This conversion is crucial in scenarios where serial communication is required for uploading code, monitoring outputs, or interfacing with peripherals, making it a staple in prototyping and development workflows. Features: Based on the reliable FT232RL chip for USB-to-TTL serial conversion. Selectable 3.3V or 5V logic levels via jumper for broad compatibility. Compact, breadboard-friendly form factor for easy prototyping. Female header for direct connection to Arduino-compatible boards. Includes male pin headers for flexible mounting options. Specifications: Parameter Value Integrated Circuit FT232RL Operating Voltage 3.3V or 5V (selectable) Power Source Mini-USB Data Rate Up to 3Mbaud Dimensions 38.0×18.0×12.0mm Supported OS Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android Applications: Programming and debugging Arduino-compatible boards without built-in USB. Serial communication in IoT and embedded systems projects. Interfacing microcontrollers with computers for data logging. Educational demonstrations of USB-to-serial protocols. Prototyping custom electronics and sensor networks. Integration in robotics for control and monitoring. Connecting the FTDI breakout board to OSEPP™ and Arduino boards: If connecting to a board with 1×6 male pin headers, simple connect the 1×6 female connector to the pin headers. If connecting to a board with pinholes, insert a 1×6 male pin header into the 1×6 female connector, then connect to the board. When connecting the FTDI breakout board, make sure the pin signals match up to the target board’s pin signals, e.g., GND should go to GND, CTS should go to CTS, and so on. Also, make sure the connection is secure. Place the jumper on the FTDI breakout board to select either 3.3 or 5 V VCC to match that of your target board’s VCC Connect USB cable to PC/Mac Connect other end into the FTDI breakout board Using the FTDI breakout board on a breadboard: Solder the 1×6 male pin headers to each of the 1×6 pinholes on the two sides of the FTDI board Place the FTDI breakout board onto a breadboard and make appropriate connections Place the jumper on the FTDI breakout board to select either 3.3 or 5 V VCC to match that of your target board’s VCC Connect USB cable to PC/Mac Connect other end into the FTDI breakout board Package Include: 1x OSEPP FTD-01 FTDI USB to Serial Breakout Board. 1x Straight male pin headers.
