Description

MCP2515 TJA1050 CAN Bus SPI Module The MCP2515 TJA1050 CAN Bus SPI Module lets a microcontroller send and receive data over a CAN network. It combines the MCP2515 stand-alone CAN controller with the TJA1050 high-speed CAN transceiver. The MCP2515 communicates with the host controller through SPI. Therefore, you can add CAN Bus communication to boards that do not include a built-in CAN controller. In addition, the module supports CAN 2.0B standard and extended frames. It also supports communication speeds up to 1Mbps when the network wiring and software configuration allow it. Key Features MCP2515 stand-alone CAN controller TJA1050 high-speed CAN transceiver SPI communication interface Supports CAN 2.0A and CAN 2.0B Supports standard 11-bit CAN identifiers Supports extended 29-bit CAN identifiers Maximum CAN data rate up to 1Mbps Onboard 8MHz crystal oscillator Onboard 120Ω CAN termination resistor CANH and CANL connection terminals Power and communication indicator LEDs Compact and easy-to-integrate design Technical Specifications CAN Controller: MCP2515 CAN Transceiver: TJA1050 Communication Interface: SPI CAN Protocol: CAN 2.0A and CAN 2.0B Supported Frames: Standard and extended Maximum CAN Speed: Up to 1Mbps Module Supply Voltage: 5V DC Crystal Frequency: 8MHz Termination Resistance: 120Ω Approximate Dimensions: 40 × 28mm Module Pinout VCC: 5V power input GND: Ground connection CS: SPI chip-select input SCK: SPI clock input SI / MOSI: SPI data input SO / MISO: SPI data output INT: MCP2515 interrupt output CANH: CAN Bus high line CANL: CAN Bus low line Applications The module suits many CAN communication projects. For example, you can use it to connect multiple controllers, sensors, or embedded devices over the same network. Typical applications include: Arduino CAN Bus projects Automotive network experiments Vehicle data monitoring Robotics communication systems Industrial controllers Embedded control projects CAN network learning and testing Communication between multiple microcontrollers Important Connection Notes The module normally operates from a 5V supply. Therefore, you can connect it easily to 5V Arduino boards. However, use a suitable logic-level converter when connecting the SPI pins to 3.3V controllers such as many ESP32 and STM32 boards. This step protects the controller inputs from potentially unsafe 5V logic levels. Also, install termination resistance only at the two physical ends of the CAN network. If your network already has the required termination, check whether the module allows you to disconnect its onboard 120Ω resistor. Package Includes 1 × MCP2515 CAN Bus Module with TJA1050 Transceiver Note: This module supports Classical CAN 2.0 communication. It does not support CAN FD.
