PT2262 Remote Control Decoder IC DIP-18 The PT2262 is a CMOS-based remote control encoder designed to generate serial coded waveforms for wireless transmission. Its primary function is to encode the logic states set on its address and data pins into a specialized digital stream. This encoded signal is then output via the DOUT pin, ready to be modulated onto a carrier frequency for RF (Radio Frequency) or IR (Infrared) transmission, forming the foundation of a one-way wireless communication link. The encoder creates a “Code Word” consisting of up to 12 “Address/Data” bits followed by a synchronization bit. Each bit’s waveform (representing a logic ‘0’, ‘1’, or floating ‘f’) is defined by a specific pattern of pulses based on the chip’s internal oscillator timing. For reliable transmission, the PT2262 automatically transmits each complete Code Word four times in succession, creating a robust “Code Frame” that helps the paired receiver (PT2272) correctly decode the signal amidst potential interference. Operation is initiated by pulling the active-low /TE (Transmit Enable) pin to ground. The chip remains in a low-power stand-by mode until this occurs. The encoding process and waveform synthesis happen in real-time at the moment of transmission, using the pin states present when /TE is activated. An external single resistor connected between the OSC1 and OSC2 pins sets the chip’s fundamental operating frequency, which is crucial for synchronizing the encoder with its corresponding decoder.
