Shaft Rotary Encoder Sensor The HW-040 is a highly versatile, compact shaft rotary encoder module mounted on a convenient breakout board, making it perfect for DIY electronics, prototyping, and microcontroller projects. Unlike standard potentiometers, this rotary encoder provides continuous 360-degree rotation tracking via quadrature outputs, allowing you to accurately measure relative changes in position, speed, and direction. It features three integrated 10kΩ pull-up resistors on the back of the PCB and an integrated push-button shaft switch for enhanced control functionality. Features Continuous Rotation Integrated Push-Button Switch Onboard Pull-up Resistors Project & Breadboard Friendly Dual Mounting Holes Specifications Model HW-040 Module Dimensions (PCB) 26 mm × 18.5 mm PCB Thickness 1.3 mm Total Module Height 21 mm (from base of PCB to the top of the shaft) Shaft Length 9.5 mm Shaft Diameter 4.4 mm to 5.7 mm (D-Shape flat section) Onboard Resistors 3× 10kΩ surface-mount resistors All dimensions are in mm Pinout Configuration CLK: Clock output (Primary encoder pulse for step counting) DT: Data output (Secondary encoder pulse offset by 90° to determine direction) SW: Switch output (Push-button action, normally open) +: Positive power supply connection (VCC) GND: Ground connection Applications Digital volume control and audio equipment tuning knobs.
