From Makers Electronics's description
UNI-T UT256A 200A True RMS Fork Meter The UNI-T UT256A is a fork-style current meter that integrates a rigid open fork around its jaw mechanism, designed so the user can slip a single conductor past a marked position inside the fork to measure AC current without needing a traditional clamp. Its shape provides visual cues for proper alignment, and the casing gives a sense of rugged build thick casing walls, finger-guards, and textured surfaces to prevent slipping. The display is positioned on the front panel, clear and readable even under moderate ambient light, with buttons placed for easy reach without removing one’s grip. When powered on, the meter exhibits a natural balance of function and simplicity: the function switch lets the user choose between measuring AC current via the fork, voltage (AC/DC) via leads/probes, resistance, continuity, or non-contact voltage (NCV). The LCD, combined with visual and audible alarms or indicators, gives immediate feedback. The design ensures the meter feels solid, with the test leads stored or handled so they don’t interfere with measurement. The fork opening is sized and shaped to facilitate placement in tight wiring configurations without needing to reposition large bundles. Internally, the UT256A has a feel of precision engineering: components for true RMS current measurement, effective insulation, and significant overload protection. There’s an emphasis on safety via its insulation materials, the distance to live parts, and the quality of contact points. It also shows ergonomics: weight and balance intended so that holding and using it for extended periods isn’t overly fatiguing. Overall, the meter comes across as a professional tool: something built for frequent use, difficult environments, reliable readings, and designed to give confidence to the user rather than uncertainty. Features: True RMS current measurement to ensure accuracy under distorted waveforms. Fork-type jaw design: slip wire into open fork rather than clamp completely. Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) detection via sensor in the fork tip with visual/audio alert. Data Hold function to freeze readings on display. Auto / Manual range switching for measurement flexibility. Backlight for better visibility in low light. Flashlight (LED) built in to assist locating in dim environments. Audible & visual alarms for over-range, NCV level etc. Auto power off to save battery when idle.
