Description
SIM800L GSM / GPRS Module + External Antenna The SIM800L is a miniature, quad-band GSM/GPRS module that allows you to add cellular connectivity to your electronic projects. It enables your device to connect to any global 2G GSM network to send and receive GPRS data, send and receive SMS messages, and make and receive voice calls. At its core is the SIM800L chip from SIMCom, which operates on a flexible voltage range and is designed for low power consumption, making it suitable for various mobile and remote applications. Communication with the module is handled via a UART serial interface using standard AT commands. Features • Quad-Band Support: Operates on four GSM frequencies (GSM 850, EGSM 900, DCS 1800, and PCS 1900), allowing for global network compatibility. • GPRS Data: Supports GPRS multi-slot class 12 (default) for connecting to the internet (TCP/IP, HTTP, etc.). • Voice Calls: Capable of making and receiving voice calls. It includes audio interfaces for an external microphone and speaker. • SMS Messaging: Fully supports sending and receiving SMS messages in Text and PDU modes. • AT Command Control: All functions are controlled through a serial-based AT command set via a UART interface. • Low Power Consumption: Features a power-saving sleep mode with a typical current consumption as low as 0.7mA. • FM Radio: Includes support for scanning and receiving FM radio broadcasts. Specifications Specification: Value / Range Module: SIM800L Power Supply Voltage: 3.4V to 4.4V Recommended Voltage: 4.0V Current Consumption (Sleep Mode): ~0.7mA – 1mA Current Consumption (Peak Burst): Up to 2A (during transmission bursts) Frequency Bands: Quad-band: GSM 850, EGSM 900, DCS 1800, PCS 1900 Control Interface: UART (Serial) Baud Rates: 1200 bps to 115200 bps, with auto-baud detection SIM Card Interface: Supports 1.8V and 3V SIM cards Module Dimensions: 15.8 x 17.8 x 2.4 mm Operating Temperature: -40°C to +85°C Module Pinout Pin Name: Function Description NET: Connects the helical antenna that comes with the module. VCC: The power supply pin . The SIM800L needs between 3.4V and 4.4V (Do NOT connect directly to Arduino’s 5V or 3.3V outputs). RST: Reset pin, used to restart the module (Pull this pin LOW for about 100 ms to perform a hard reset). RxD (Receiver): Receives commands sent to the module. Has “auto-baud detection.” TxD (Transmitter): Sends data from the module back to your microcontroller. GND: The ground pin , which connects to the ground of your circuit. RING: The Ring Indicator (‘interrupt-out’ pin). Can be configured to go LOW when a phone call or text message is received. DTR: Controls the sleep mode . Pulling this pin HIGH enters sleep mode; pulling it LOW for about 50 ms wakes it up. MIC±: Used for connecting an external microphone (differential microphone inputs). SPK±: Used for connecting a speaker (differential speaker interfaces). Applications • Internet of Things (IoT) devices • Remote monitoring and control systems • Home automation and security systems • Emergency alert and notification devices • Other mobile devices requiring cellular connectivity Package Content • 1 x SIM800L module • 2 x 6-pin Male Headers • 1 x Helical Antenna Documents and Useful Links • Datasheet_SIM800L • Tutorial • Arduino library • Hooking up guide

Description
SIM800L GSM / GPRS Module + External Antenna is a high-quality electronic component designed for Arduino, prototyping, and educational electronics. Mini GSM/GPRS module SIM800L is a miniature cellular module which allows for GPRS transmission, sending and receiving SMS and making and receiving voice calls. Low cost and small footprint and quad band frequency support make this module perfect solution for any project that require long range connectivity. After connecting power module boots up, searches for cellular network and login automatically. On board LED displays connection state (no network coverage – fast blinking, logged in – slow blinking). NOTICE: Be prepared to handle huge power consumption with peek up to 2A. Maximum voltage on UART in this module is 2.8V. Higher voltage will kill the module. Antenna This module have one antenna included . It is made of wire (which solders directly to NET pin on PCB) – very useful in narrow places. Module has IPX connector to attach external antenna. Specifications: Supply voltage: 3.8V – 4.2V Recommended supply voltage: 4V Power consumption: sleep mode < 2.0mA idle mode < 7.0mA GSM transmission (avg): 350 mA GSM transmission (peek): 2000mA Module size: 25 x 23 mm Interface: UART (max. 2.8V) and AT commands SIM card socket: microSIM (bottom side) Supported frequencies: Quad Band (850 / 950 / 1800 /1900 MHz) Antenna connector: IPX Status signaling: LED Working temperature range: -40 do + 85 ° C Set includes: SIM800L module 2x 6-pin Male Headers wire antenna PCB antenna with pigtail and IPX connector Module pinout Pinout (bottom side – left): RING (not marked on PBC, first from top, square) – LOW state while receiving call DTR – sleep mode. Default in HIGH state (module in sleep mode, serial communication disabled). After setting it in LOW the module will wake up. MICP, MICN – microphone (P + / N -) SPKP, SPKN – speaker (P + / N -) Pinout (bottom side – right): NET – antenna VCC – supply voltage RESET – reset RXD – serial communication TXD – serial communication GND – ground It’s perfect for DIY makers, students, and anyone building custom electronic circuits or STEM kits.
