From Makers Electronics's description
74LS83 4-Bit Binary FULL ADDER With Fast Carry 5V IC DIP-16 The 74LS83 is a high-speed 4-bit binary full adder designed to perform binary addition of two 4-bit input words, A and B, together with an incoming carry signal. It provides four sum outputs and a final carry output, making it useful for arithmetic operations in digital systems, calculators, counters, and processor-related circuits. This IC uses internal carry-lookahead circuitry to improve carry propagation speed compared with basic ripple-carry arrangements. It supports positive-logic or negative-logic operation and comes in a 16-pin dual in-line package (DIP-16), suitable for through-hole PCB assembly and breadboard prototyping. The supplied datasheet identifies the device as the SN54/74LS83A family; verify the exact marking on your component when matching specifications. Features: Performs binary addition of two 4-bit input words. Accepts an external carry input. Provides four sum outputs and a carry output. Internal carry-lookahead circuitry. Supports positive-logic and negative-logic operation. TTL-compatible digital logic Through-hole package for convenient prototyping.
